Is there a limit on how big the explosions can be? Supposing you kill enough people, can you become a robot that's around the size of a tall building, and then explode and engulf the entire map, killing everyone?

If not, consider this a request. Laughing out loud

Hello Pinko
We've kept the robot and explosion size to a limit to prevent players from being too un-stoppable. You already become very over-powered once you reach the top and fighting someone as big as a building would be pretty much like offering them your points wrapped in a present. As for having an explosiong engulfing the entire level, it's a nice idea but randomly dying on the opposite side of the level we thought would be annoying to other players.

Another question about the

Another question about the explosions - it would be interesting if the explosions could destroy buildings and stuff, as well, wouldn't it? Though I know it would make the whole thing more difficult, and by the end of a match there wouldn't be much left of a level.

I don't exactly know what I'm asking, but the explosions promise to be a neat part of the game however you look at it. I guess I'm just interested in seeing how it's going to work, how big the explosions get, and if they're always white. n.n

(and if there will be a concussive effect after, perhaps a vacuum effect before and or after the big ones, etc x3 There are so many neat things one can do with an explosion, but an explosion is an explosion. As long as there's a pretty flash and things go boom... n.n <3)

destructive

destructive terrain/buildings is really hard work Smiling we're going to leave that the AAA titles...

Currently the explosions are similar to those seen at the start of the movie Akira (our inspiration in a few of the visual aspects of PS). Basically, a giant ball of light.
At the moment the size of your explosion is directly proportional to the number of points you have. Ie. if you only have a couple of points your explosion will tiny and hardly reach anyone..

As the player gets more points they (and their explosion) change colour. The maximum number of points is represented by the white colour - this is the one you see on the trailer / gameplay footage Eye-wink

hope that helps - if you have any other questions fire away!

Cheers

How fast do you explode? Is

How fast do you explode? Is there a window of opportunity in which an ambitious opponent could kill you just before you explode? Will there be a visual warning? How fast does the explosion expand?

Just a few more questions n.n And I think it WOULD be a neat game mechanic if one could stop an explosion in a split-second action, or perhaps another way of avoiding the explosion's effect n.n

Would there be different sounds for different strength of explosions, as well as different colors? When the explosions destroy opponents, would they make sounds as well? How will they die visibly? n.n? Or will they just be consumed in the light n.n?

It's just all so neat. I can't wait to see it for myself n.n Please excuse the rush of questions; I get a little too excitable about this kind of stuff.

Responses for your many questions :)

Hi LadyAurin,

I'll see if I can try and answer all your explosion related questions!

The way the explosions currently work is that they occur instantly, but expand at a rate that is escapable. We might tweak this so there is a warning before an explosion but it expands quicker, but I think it plays pretty nicely at the moment.

Ad for the sounds, the sound of the explosion does vary according to its size, also there are a number of emote sounds (little yells and things) that the robots do when they explode or die, so hopefully plenty of variation there Smiling

Stick o' Dynamite or TNT Plunger? Choices, choices,... Choices?

I've kinda been wondering about the explosions myself. From the video it looks like you just up and go KaPOW! Are there going to be any options for explosion animations? Maybe the robot eats a stick of dynamite, or pushes a little Big Red Button or something?

Thanks, Lawrence n.n

Ah. Thank you for answering my explosion-related questions n.n
It sounds interesting, and I can't wait to see it in action. I think the emotes robots make when dying in an explosion will definitely be neat, especially if a lot of them die at once, it could get pretty crazy n.n
So, as is, there's no advanced warning that someone is going to explode, but if you're not immediately destroyed in the explosion it's still possible to get away? How, currently, do you choose to explode? Single-button press? n.n?
The potential things interesting and dangerous about being able to explode instantly, of course, then, would be that if a much stronger bot were JUST about to kill you, you could pretty effectively give them a "Screw you!" And explode in their face. Nasty surprise, that.
But the downside for there being a warm-up/warning before an explosion is people could exploit that and kill you off just as you're about to bank your points... Hmm..

Explosions

I played the game for the first time at the EG expo, and in my opinion the explosions are near spot on, I escaped a good few explosions as it does not expand too fast and you can dash away pretty easily.

Could easily get annoying!

I think that it would be too powerful... I mean on a full game what times multiplier would THAT bring up?
